~Microbiology and Forensic Science free online course~

Here is a free Microbiology online course, complete the course and get certificate of accomplishment.

What's it about?

Have you ever thought about infectious diseases and why we get infected? What is the causative agent? In this course you will be touring through four modules, starting by taking a close look at the bacterial cell structure and functions which will then lead you to the study of viruses.
You will go through the differences in the different types of cells which will allow you to distinguish the two major groups of bacteria and techniques. Next, you will focus on Forensic Microbiology, its history and how this discipline has evolved. Finally, we will look at the latest molecular techniques used for detecting microbes’ genetic material.

What's involved?

MODULE 1BACTERIAL STRUCTURE
9 videos, 8 quizzes, 1 assessment2 Jun - 8 Jun
MODULE 2VIRUSES AND THEIR STRUCTURE
9 videos, 8 quizzes, 1 assessment9 Jun - 15 Jun
MODULE 3FORENSIC MICROBIOLOGY
8 videos, 7 quizzes, 1 assessment16 Jun - 22 Jun
MODULE 4GENOTYPING TECHNIQUES
9 videos, 8 quizzes, 1 assessment23 Jun - 29 Jun

What will I learn?

  • Bacterial cell structure and function
  • Viruses and their structure
  • How Forensic Microbiology has evolved
  • Different types of Forensic Microbiology
  • Differences in Forensic Science versus Forensic Microbiology
  • How to read a scientific journal and review one in a case study
  • Genotyping techniques
  • The role of DNA and RNA in Microbiology and Forensic Science
This course requires approximately 2 - 4 hours of study per week, but can vary depending on the student. This includes watching videos, and taking quizzes and assessments. The total video time for this course is approximately 2 hours 36 minutes.
If you pass this course you'll receive a Certificate of Achievement. While this certificate isn't a formal qualification or credit, you can use it to demonstrate your interest in learning about this area to potential employers or educational institutions.
